Understanding fire and material performance across the products and systems that make up modern rolling stock.

Request Assessment

Experienced across highly regulated industries

Every sector presents a different set of challenges. Regulations vary, operating conditions differ and a product that performs successfully in one application may face very different demands in another.

Optimi Global works across rail and mass transit, the built environment and infrastructure, defence, marine and naval, aerospace and more. Our background in fire performance and materials science can be applied throughout product development, testing, specification, assessment and compliance.

A test report or certification alone rarely tells the whole story. How a product is made, where it will be used, what is being claimed and which requirements apply all form part of the picture.

We give you access to independent technical advice that helps you to pull the full picture together.

Who we support

We work with manufacturers, suppliers, operators, engineers and specifiers to interpret fire standards, examine test results and establish whether products and materials have the necessary backing for their proposed use.

Rail & mass transit

Rail brings together thousands of products and materials, often within confined, high-occupancy environments governed by demanding fire safety requirements.

Our team has extensive experience across rolling stock, rail infrastructure, stations, underground and metro systems.

That expertise covers the breadth of a rail environment, from cables, coatings and interior materials to construction products and infrastructure components. We can become involved during development, ahead of testing, when preparing a specification or when an existing product raises a question that needs a closer look.

Built Environments & Infrastructure

We help you get product and material choices right. Buildings and infrastructure projects rely on a vast range of materials, components and systems, with each bringing its own standards, performance criteria and supporting documentation.

We examine requirements and establish whether the available information supports your proposed application. This could mean reviewing a product before it is specified, advising on material selection, investigating gaps in existing documentation or helping to determine what additional work to ensure full compliance is required.

Bringing fire and materials knowledge into these conversations can resolve questions earlier and give project teams a firmer basis for specification, procurement and approval.

Defence industry

Exceptional demands are placed on products and materials in the defence sectors, with performance requirements shaped by their construction, use and operating conditions.

Material behaviour, fire performance, durability and the consequences of failure can all require detailed technical examination.

Rather than accepting a headline performance claim at face value, we look at how the product is constructed, how it has been tested, what those results demonstrate and whether they are relevant to the end application.

For unusual products or difficult questions, our scientific approach is particularly valuable and often not independently available.

Marine & naval

We assess performance in context. Marine and naval applications combine distinctive fire safety requirements with demanding operational and environmental conditions.

Our team advise organisations developing, supplying, selecting or reviewing products for these applications, drawing on expertise in material behaviour, fire performance, testing and standards.

We examine the information already available, consider it against the proposed use and highlight where it warrants further investigation. Where additional testing or assessment is required, we advise what is needed and why.

Aerospace

Material selection is fundamental to aerospace design and engineering. Changes in composition, construction, thickness or application can alter how a product behaves and whether previous results remain relevant.

Optimi Global provides you with a deeper assessment of the materials, products and existing test information, we draw on our technical knowledge of fire behaviour and materials science.

We can support you to investigate anomalies, review available data, explore the effect of material changes and identify areas where further assessment is needed and what to do next.

Our approach is both scientific and evidence-led and perfect for teams that need to understand what the data demonstrates, and just as importantly, what it does not.

Specialist environment & cross-sector expertise

In specialist environments and applications, Optimi Global applies cross-sector knowledge, because believe it or not different industries can present surprisingly similar questions.

Materials do not recognise sector boundaries. A polymer used in rolling stock may have relevance elsewhere. A coating developed for one environment may be proposed for another. A testing issue encountered in infrastructure could raise a familiar scientific question in defence or marine.

Working across different industries gives Optimi Global a broader technical frame of reference. We draw on experience from different applications while still considering the specific standards, conditions and intended use of the product in front of us.

That combination of sector experience and underlying scientific knowledge allows us to look at problems from more than one angle.

Do you have something that needs a closer look?
Bring it to us.

You might be developing a new product, reviewing existing test results, considering a different material or trying to establish which requirements apply.

Whatever has brought you here, talk us through it. We can look at what you have, understand what you are trying to achieve and work out the most appropriate next step.
